Empowered Ageing - More Than Exercise
Empowered Ageing is not just about fitness.
It’s a movement, a philosophy, and a community built around the belief that ageing can be a time of strength, confidence, connection, and purpose.
Many people come to Empowered Ageing feeling disconnected from their bodies after injury, illness, long periods of inactivity, or simply because traditional fitness no longer feels accessible or inspiring.
Here, movement is not about pushing harder. It’s about moving smarter, rebuilding trust in your body, and rediscovering what you’re capable of, at any stage of life.
Empowered Ageing supports people who want to:
- Feel strong and confident again
- Move without fear
- Regain independence and autonomy
- Stay active, social, and mentally engaged
- Belong to a community that values health, well-being, and personal growth.
Today, we operate through three complementary pillars:
- Practice — personalised movement training and group classes that help people rebuild strength, mobility, and confidence.
- Education — workshops, talks, retreats and collaborative events that share practical knowledge about healthy ageing and wellbeing.
- Transmission — the future development of educational pathways for trainers and professionals interested in learning the Empowered Ageing coaching system.
Together, these three areas support a long-term vision: helping people age with autonomy, dignity, and vitality through movement, knowledge, and community.
A Community Built Through Movement
While many people begin their journey with private sessions, Empowered Ageing is also about connection.
As confidence, strength, and mobility grow, many clients naturally transition into:
- Small private groups
- Group classes such as Vital Flow
- Workshops and community events.
This progression is intentional.
It allows people to move from support → autonomy → shared experience, creating friendships, motivation, and a sense of belonging — something especially valuable for expats building a new life in the Algarve.
Empowered Ageing is a place where people don’t just train together — they grow together.
In addition to regular classes, Empowered Ageing also creates opportunities for learning and connection through workshops, collaborative events, retreats and partnerships with professionals and organisations in the health and wellbeing field.
Arlindo Martins
Movement Mentor & Holistic Trainer
Empowered Ageing is guided by Arlindo Martins, a Movement Mentor and Holistic Trainer with decades of experience in sport, movement, and human development.
Arlindo holds a degree in Sports Science and began his professional journey as a Physical Education teacher, where he developed innovative and motivational approaches to movement that helped people reconnect with exercise in meaningful ways.
He later founded and led a successful martial arts school and became a national-level trainer for the Portuguese Kickboxing Federation, coaching athletes to international competition.
However, over the last decade, Arlindo’s work has evolved toward what he considers his true calling:
helping mature adults rebuild strength, confidence, and joy through movement.
His approach integrates:
Functional and natural movement
Strength, balance, coordination, and mobility
Injury prevention and safe falling skills
Mind–body awareness and emotional confidence
Progressive systems adapted to real-life needs.
Arlindo has helped many people significantly reduce or overcome challenges such as:
Chronic back and hip pain
Arthritis
Mobility loss
Fear of falling
Loss of confidence after injury or illness.
What sets Arlindo apart is not just technical expertise, but his empathetic, calm, and empowering presence.
Clients often describe his work as transformational — not only physically, but emotionally and mentally.

Empowered Ageing collaborates with carefully selected independent professionals in areas such as nutrition, metabolic health, and complementary therapies.
These professionals are not part of the core Empowered Ageing team, but are trusted partners who share similar values and standards of care.
When appropriate, clients may be guided toward these partners as part of a broader, holistic support system.
